A company in Cheetham Hill has been fined almost £6,000 after importing dangerous counterfeit 'Frozen' dolls.

The toys, which included characters Anna and Elsa, contained parts that were not properly secure, meaning that children could easily get to the button cell batteries inside.

If swallowed by a child, the batteries have the potential to cause death or serious injury.

The dolls, which were not official Disney products, were discovered by officers from Manchester City Council Trading Standards and seized.

The said that C&Q Trading Limited, on Derby Street, had failed to test the safety of the toys.

The company was fined a total of £4,000, and order to pay £827.30 in costs and a victim surcharge of £170, at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 18.

The council has been granted permission to destroy the items.

Coun Nigel Murphy, Manchester City Council executive member for neighbourhoods, said: “It is never acceptable to sell dangerous items to anyone but this case is particularly alarming as the goods involved were intended for children – hugely increasing the risk the products posed.

“The fine issued to C&Q Trading Limited, along with the suspended sentence given to its director, illustrate just how seriously we take our duty to protect the public. If we suspect items are being sold which put the public at risk rest assured our trading standards officers will not ‘let it go’”.”
