An 84-year-old woman was left terrified after her door was kicked in by a gang of would-be burglars.

Two yobs knocked on the door of the elderly woman, who lives alone in Milnrow , Rochdale , and demanded to be let into the property.

But after the woman refused them entry, the pair demanded she hand over ‘her money’, and started to kick in the door.

The distressed woman immediately called the police, before the pair gave up and made off in a waiting car which was parked outside the property.

After the incident CCTV footage was posted on Facebook by one of the victim’s neighbours which shows three people running towards and then getting into a silver car before it drives off at speed.

The woman has asked the M.E.N. not to publish details of her address for fear of further attacks.

Police are now appealing for anyone with any information about the incident, which happened at around 9.45pm on Saturday, July 9, to come forward.

The door was seriously damaged during the attempted burglary

The neighbour who posted the CCTV on Facebook said: “She was on her own when two lads knocked on her door. After she asked them what they wanted they said ‘we want your money’.

“Obviously she didn’t let them in and at that point they started to kick in the door. She called the police and not long after they ran off.

“The lady is understandably very, very shaken and has no idea why she might have been targeted.

“It looks like in total three people were involved, two guys and a girl.”

A GMP spokesman confirmed that they were investigating the incident as an attempted robbery.

They said: “We were called to reports of a door being damaged in Milnrow at around 9.53pm on Saturday, July 9.

“Two males are reported to have been banging and kicking on the door demanding money.

“Officers are now investigating the incident as an attempted robbery.”
