CCTV images have been released by police of a man they want to speak to after a woman was raped inside a city centre nightclub.

Police were called to Ark Nightclub on Whitworth Street West in the early hours after reports that an 18-year-old woman had been attacked.

Detectives have now issued a picture of a man they want to interview as part of their inquiries.

The attack was reported at 2.45am on Sunday May 29, where earlier a large crowd had been attending to watch garage music act Oxide and Neutrino perform.

Det Con Dave Jones, from GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit, appealed to anyone who was at the venue, opposite Deansgate Locks, at the time to study the image closely.

He said: “This was extremely distressing for the victim and our specially trained officers continue to offer her support through this understandably difficult time.

“We have been following a number of enquiries since that morning and we are now trying to identify the man pictured so we can speak to him as part of our investigation.

“The venue would have been particularly busy as a large number of people attended especially to see Oxide and Neutrino perform and I think someone will be able to recognise this man.

“If you do recognise him, or if you were at the venue that night and may have seen something, I would urge you to call police or Crimestoppers if you wish to remain anonymous. Even the smallest bit of information could prove vital to this investigation.”

Anybody with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 364 of 29/05/16 or the Serious Sexual Offences Unit on 0161 856 1911 between 7am and 11pm.

Alternatively, information can also be passed on to the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
