A seven-year-old boy is ‘fighting for his life’ in hospital after being hit by two cars in Bolton .

The boy was knocked off his scooter at a pelican crossing on Crompton Way, close to Hall ‘ith ‘Wood railway station, at around 7.10pm on Tuesday.

He was struck by Honda CRV as he crossed the road before being hit AGAIN by a Ford Transit van which had been travelling behind the Honda.

The child was rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary with a fractured skull, a bleed to the brain and a badly broken left foot.

He remains in hospital in an induced coma. Medics say the boy is in a serious but stable condition.

Police have launched an investigation into the crash and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Constable Philip Shaw, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a serious collision which has left a little boy fighting for his life.

“We believe we have a good idea of what happened, but we know there were other people in the immediate vicinity at the time of the collision who have not yet come forward.

“It is vitally important that they do so, so we can build a completely accurate picture of the events which led to this little lad being hurt.”

Crompton Way was closed for at least five hours on Thursday night while police officers attended the scene.

A firefighter leaving his shift at Bolton North Fire Station assisted with first aid before a rapid response ambulance vehicle arrived.
