A protest over the fatal shootings of two black men in America is due to take place in Manchester .

Hundreds are expected to unite for the ‘Black Lives Matter - Manchester Stand in Solidarity’ at Alexandra Park, in Moss Side, on Monday night calling for justice for the men’s families.

It is the latest in a series of demonstrations across the UK in the wake of the shootings of Philando Castile in Minnesota and Alton Sterling in Louisiana.

Several events have already taken place across London, including one in the south of the capital which brought major streets to a standstill.

Organisers PAC45Foundation Ltd are urging communities to join forces against “police brutality”, saying “justice will not be given, it must be fought for”.

A full route and speakers are yet to be announced, but it’s understood the event will run from 6-9pm.

A similar demonstration at St George’s Hall in Liverpool scheduled for today (Sunday) was postponed due to a clash with another event at the venue, however dozens still marched through the city’s streets following a vigil at the Bombed Out Church armed with placards in support of the campaign.

Another protest is due to take place on July 16, co-organiser Ayo Akinrele, 27, vice-president of Liverpool Hope University ’s student union, has said.

Demonstrators in Brixton chanted “black lives matter” and “racist police, our streets” as crowds gathered, reportedly halting traffic for four hours and re-routing public transport.

In Birmingham, people stood united with tape over their mouths holding placards with messages calling for “justice” and to “end police brutality”.

Not all protests have been peaceful.

On Thursday, five white police officers were killed and seven injured after being targeted by a gunman at the Black Lives Matter Protest in Dallas, Texas.
