Six people have been charged after a police investigation into robberies across south Manchester culminated in a dramatic armed swoop in Moss Side.

Five men and a woman have appeared in court and were remanded in custody following a startling police raid last week.

It follows an operation by crack officers from GMP’s tactical firearms unit just before noon last Wednesday afternoon, June 15.

Officers armed with machine guns, hand guns and Taser stun guns cornered a Land Rover and arrested a number of suspects.

A picture taken by a resident and published by the M.E.N. at the time showed the swoop in progress, with police officers wearing bandanas, caps and sunglasses ordering the suspects onto their knees.

The raid happened three days after a robbery at Royal Jewellers on Wilmslow Road in Fallowfield , one of a series of crimes being investigated by GMP’s serious and organised crime group.

Police seized £30,000 in cash, weapons and drugs during a search of the Land Rover and follow-up raids at other properties.

Police have now confirmed that six men have been charged with conspiracy to rob and conspiracy to burgle.
