Police investigating a horror car crash in which a nine-year-old girl was killed have released images of two vehicles in a fresh appeal for witnesses.

Officers believe the drivers or passengers could have vital information about what happened.

The girl was a back seat passenger in a Toyota Auris which smashed into a brick wall near to a block of flats at Manchester Road’s junction with Stamford Brook Road in Altrincham on May 7. She was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Her father, 45, and her eleven-year-old sister suffered serious injuries and remain in hospital.

In an update today, police said the girl remains in a serious condition. Her father, previously too ill to speak with officers, is now said to be stable and recovering and is helping police with their investigation. The girls were being taken to band practice at the time.

Police have now issued CCTV images showing a silver or grey coloured Citroen C3 and a dark Range Rover Evoque.

Investigating officers hope the drivers or passengers may be able to provide crucial information about the collision.

Sergeant Brian Orr, from GMP’s serious collision investigation unit, said the girls’ father has now been spoken to and is helping with the investigation.

He said: “We don’t believe the drivers of these vehicles have done anything wrong or were involved in the collision, but they were in the area and may have vital information about how the collision happened.

“This is a tragic situation and we are still investigating all possibilities. We are appealing for any drivers who saw the black Toyota Auris to contact police. In particular, we are appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage to come forward.

“My heart goes out to the family, this is such a tragic situation.

“The driver is now recovering in hospital. He has been spoken to by police and is helping with the investigation. His 11-year-old daughter is still in a serious condition in hospital.

“We would like to thank the public for their overwhelming support with this investigation so far. We will not stop until we can find the reason that this poor young girl lost her life.”

Police have already carried out ‘skid tests’ at the scene as the car was said to have been travelling at high speed.

Officers initially launched a hunt for two young boys who were thought to have been passengers who ran away. It was quickly established however that no one else was inside. The family involved hasn’t been involved.
