It may have been a long shot, but the bold young man who asked UFC champion Rousey to accompany him to this year's Marine Corps Ball has been rewarded for his daring request. She said yes!

Asked on camera in a clip shared by TMZ whether she'd seen the viral video in which 22-year-old US Marine Jarrod Haschert asked her to be his date, Rousey admitted that she had - and she'd be happy to accompany the strapping North Carolina-based patriot.

The only problem? Rousey's not quite sure how to give him her digits.

Haschert first shared the video on Facebook on August 22, and with the help of intrigued viewers, it soon earned over four and a half million views - and a certain UFC bantamweight titleholder's attention.

At first, Rousey said she didn't think the dance was in the cards, as she had thought she would be busy training when it is set to be held on December 11. But after a change was made to her schedule, she's now available - and wants to let Haschert know she's in for the big day.

'I was like, "Oh, I can't go anyway, because I'm in camp", but the fight got moved, so I actually can go,' she explained. 'But I don't know how to, like, hit him up and say, "Yeah, I wanna go with you."'

She went on: 'I would go, for sure. But I don't know how. Do I call him? Or do I set up a time and place, like Never Been Kissed, and just show up, and have him waiting there until the clock runs out, and be like, "I'm here!"'

Luckily for both Rousey and Haschert, a potentially ill-fated meet-up - in the movie, Michael Vartan's character almost doesn't make it in time to kiss Drew Barrymore's character - isn't their only option. The reporter behind the camera promises to help put the two in touch, before asking Rousey if Haschert is actually her type.

'He's cute!' she answered. 'I don't know. He's gotta be a gentleman. I'm not a [sleeping together on the] first date kind of a girl.'

She then gestures to three female friends who are with her, noting that it would be great if Jarrod could round up some of his friends to take them too:  'He needs to find dates for my girls, and then we'll all go.'

It likely helped Haschert's case that he was so flattering in his initial request, and the Marine later told TMZ Sports that he did, in fact, plan on being a gentleman.

'I'm not gonna try to make any moves,' he said. 'It's all about being a Marine and being a gentleman. Just having her there is gonna be amazing enough.'

Dressed in his fatigues, Haschert was also up-front about his admiration of Rousey in his initial Facebook clip.

'You are my celebrity crush,' he confessed. ‘I love everything that you do, and I think that you are a phenomenal person.'

He went on to tell her: 'It would be my honour to take you to the Marine Corps ball on December 11.'

Haschert acknowledged that the ball might conflict with training for her next fight, which was initially scheduled for January 2 in Las Vegas, making it especially fortunate that the fight got bumped to November 14.

'If you do [come], you will truly be making my dream come true,' he concluded.

Haschert isn't the first Marine to ask out a celebrity. In 2011, Sgt. Scott Moore, of the 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines in Musa Qala, Afghanistan, posted a video on YouTube asking Mila Kunus to accompany him to the Marine Corps Ball - and she said yes.
