Ronaldo Souza and Yoel Romero will step into the octagon later this year to fight on the same card as Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor's world title bout in Las Vegas.

And Souza and Romero will feature on the same night after two previously scheduled middleweight bouts were cancelled shortly before fight night.

Souza and Romero are the No 2 and No 3 ranked fighters in the division and the winner could be in line for a shot at the title.

Current middleweight champion Chris Weidman is defending his title against Luke Rockhold in the co-main event at UFC 194 in what promises to be a thrilling night.

Souza, known as Jacre, which translates to Alligator, is unbeaten in five fights in the UFC, while opponent Romero, a former Olympic freestyle wrestler, is unbeaten in six bouts.

Souza, 35, has insisted that he is ready for a shot at a world title, and would even be happy to move up a division.

'I will always be ready to become the champion,' Souza told MMA Fighting.

'I work for the UFC, and some fighters like to do the matchmaker's job. I'm a fighter. If the UFC sets a date with any opponent at 185 or 205 pounds, I will be ready to become the champion.'

Souza will move into the No 1 contender spot with victory against Romero in December.

'Sooner or later I will be the title contender, no doubt. Things happen pretty fast in the UFC.'
