Bills coach Rex Ryan was so enamored with Odell Beckham in 2014 that he apparently tried to trade for the Giants receiver. Ryan revealed this week that he went after Beckham during his final year as coach of the Jets.

Ryan off-handedly spilled the details during an interview with SI.com after he was asked if he thought wide receiver Sammy Watkins is injury-prone. Watkins recently broke his foot and is expected to be sidelined for the next 8-12 weeks.

"Has [Sammy] missed a little time? Yeah. Big deal. He and everyone else," Ryan said. "The Beckham kid came out the same year, and he missed how many games with a hamstring issue? Believe me, I was trying to trade for him [with the Jets] when he had the hamstring. I was reading the [New York] papers, and I was like, 'Well, hell, we'll take him.'"

Well, that's an interesting nugget.

Ryan loves to talk, and sometimes it's hard to tell if he's telling the truth or a tall tale. In this case, it's definitely plausible that the Jets called the Giants to check on Beckham's availability.

During Beckham's rookie year, the wide receiver didn't participate in training camp because he was dealing with a hamstring injury. The Giants coach at the time, Tom Coughlin, admitted during training camp that he wasn't thrilled with Beckham, who would end up missing the first four games of the regular season.

Ryan might have inquired about Beckham after he found out about Coughlin's initial disappointment in the wide receiver.

The other part of that is that the Jets were definitely in the market for a receiver. In October 2014, the team ended up trading for Percy Harvin.

Jets fans can now spend the rest of the month wondering how things would've turned out if Ryan had pulled off the trade before the 2014 season started.
