WWE fans must have thought it was 1999 all over again, such was the buzz The Rock and Steve Austin created on social media.

A surprise appearance from The Great One resulted in a memorable tweet, Instagram clip and YouTube video. Austin's name circulated around the Internet as well, but he didn't have to actually do anything to get that momentum started. Folks' impressions of him and one fan's tribute in a video game competition had memories of Stone Cold popping up.

Zack Ryder and Seth Rollins starred in some of the other notable WWE-related social media of the week.

We begin with the former, a man who earned his big break by developing a fanbase via the Internet. Ryder made a crack about being in the third installment of the Magic Mike series, if there is one:

Zack Ryder @ZackRyder

Hey @channingtatum, let's make it a trilogy! #ZACKED #MAGICMIKEXXL @WWE @magicmikemovie http://t.co/duUCqfDBTC

Kevin Nash appeared in both the original and the sequel. Ryder certainly has the build to join him in a potential third chapter.

But should producers not call him, he has plenty of practice dealing with being left out. WWE too often leaves him off pay-per-views and episodes of Raw. The company will travel to Asia this weekend, and Ryder isn't going be featured there, either.

Instead, Brock Lesnar, Finn Balor and others will wrestle on a live WWE Network-exclusive event in Tokyo.

If Hideo Itami wasn't hurt, you'd have to believe he'd be mixing it up with someone at that show. A bum shoulder will keep him out of action, but not out of the ring.

He and Hall of Famer Tatsumi Fujinami showed up at an event in Japan. WWE captured the moment, complete with streamers, on Instagram:

Those gentlemen will always garner a large audience in Japan. They both thrilled fans there for years. Japanese fans would likely love to see Rollins visit their country as well, but not everyone feels that way.

Rollins is apparently banned at the FarmBorough Festival on Randall's Island, New York. The WWE champ shared a tweet that shows his name next to a list that also includes laser pointers and weapons:

Seth Rollins @WWERollins

No idea what #FarmBoroughFestival is or why I'm banned from it, but this is excellent news. #dreams http://t.co/5JC4EwBqIn

With no Rollins around, the FarmBorough Festival attendees will miss out on his impression of Randy Savage.

Rollins joined Paige and Xavier Woods in a video for Smosh loaded with impersonations of famous wrestlers. They range from atrocious to spot-on. All are entertaining nonetheless:

Although he didn't wear a bald cap like Woods did there, a competitive video game player aced his tribute to The Texas Rattlesnake. Before a Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 showdown, a gamer with a knack for showmanship made his entrance a memorable one.

He borrowed from Austin's ring entrance, beer drinking and all:

Austin's longtime rival, The Rock, re-entered the WWE conversation this week as well. That's thanks to a surprise appearance at a live event in Boston.

Bo Dallas was trash-talking the city. The Brahma Bull soon showed up with bad intentions. Fans got to view it all through a variety of mediums.

The Rock shared his entrance, selfie-style, on Instagram:

Twitter showed off how things ended for Dallas, allowing fans to watch him suffer a Rock Bottom over and over again:

WWE Universe @WWEUniverse

He's not a BO-liever yet... WATCH FULL #WWEBOSTON VIDEO: http://t.co/h6jHxEuYyt @TheRock #WWEBoston @TheBoDallas http://t.co/Z4d0TL60HA

WWE captured the entire thing on video, one that quickly surpassed 1 million views (note: contains brief NSFW language):

It's comforting that no matter how famous The Rock gets or how busy he is making movies and hit TV shows, the ring always draws him back. Seeing him battle in the ring full-time would be great, but fans will settle for the occasional cameo and Rock Bottom.

Intermittent awesomeness is better than none at all.
