Richard Gomez as Mayor: I'm giving back to society

The newly-elected Mayor of Ormoc City will use his star power to help his constituents

13 May - True to his words, Richard Gomez will take a temporary hiatus from showbiz to give his full attention to his new position as the mayor of Ormoc City in Leyte.

As reported on ABS-CBN News, the actor, who spoke to DZMM's magazine talk show "Sakto" on 12 May, stated that although he will not be starring in any TV dramas for a while, he will surely appear on the small screen in another way.

"I would be happy if they could film a show in Ormoc City, if "ASAP" can do a segment in Ormoc. We will make Ormoc an open city for people to see," he said.

Gomez said he has received so much love from the public as an actor, and that this is the time for him to give back.

"The most important thing to do in Ormoc is to restore peace and order. If successful, we can easily develop tourism and cultural programmes here. We also want to increase the economy of Ormoc, through the insertion of big business and the improvement of agriculture," he added.

This is Gomez's first victory in election after several attempts. His last defeat was in the 2013 mayoralty race to Edward Codilla.
