Barça star Lionel Messi was genuinely affected by Manchester City penalty miss

Lionel Messi was exceptional at the Etihad Stadium, but the Argentine did not leave Manchester with good memories of his exhibition.

Why?

Because of his missed penalty in the dying stages of Barcelona's 2-1 win against Manchester City.

In fact, the Argentine didn't just miss from the spot, but also headed the rebound wide, leaving himself face down on the grass without the strength to pick himself up.

It was one of the images of the match.

Seconds later, the referee blew the final whistle and a crestfallen Messi made his way to the dressing room.

Inside the dressing room, in the strictest privacy, Messi spent 10 minutes going over the events of the game, isolated from the rest of his teammates.

It was clear the miss had affected him -- a lot.

However, after a shower he began to relax a little bit, while his teammates assured him that it wasn't a big deal, offering him support.

And when the squad landed back in Barcelona, Messi was already in better spirits, pictured smiling alongside Javier Mascherano as he got off the plane.

What is clear is that Lionel Messi is already waiting for the next penalty, so that he can rectify his error.
