  • Submitted by: Lewis Macdonald, North East Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 02 June 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-00325

That the Parliament congratulates the Aberdeen-based charity, The Kerusso Trust, on opening a new training and education centre in Blantyre, Malawi; understands that the £50,000 needed to open the new facility was raised through donations from individuals, businesses and churches across Aberdeen and that the centre, which contains training rooms and a library, will be used to train men and women to become church leaders in their native communities; further understands that The Kerusso Trust works in partnership with a local charity in Malawi, J-Life Malawi, to train church leaders in rural areas and that it also works with Wingate Christian Secondary School in Malawi, providing educational bursaries for children from poor township and rural families; notes that the new facility was officially opened on 28 May 2016 by Malawi’s former Finance Minister, Friday Jumbe, and commends all those involved in raising money for The Kerusso Trust on its achievement.
