The American Conservative Union’s Matt Schlapp flew down from Washington, D.C. to attend the Volusia Republican Party Lincoln Day dinner in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he presented Rep. Ron DeSantis the group’s award acknowledging his perfect conservative congressional record.
While Chairman Schlapp told me that this award was not an endorsement of DeSantis over his other 2016 Republican Senatorial primary opponents, the ACU wants to “make it really clear to voters” that they should look to see which elected official and candidate “has a firm conservative voting record.”Schlapp also added that DeSantis’ colleague in the House of Representatives, and Senate primary opponent, Rep. David Jolly (55%), “would not meet” their “standards for being a conservative in Congress.”
According to Schalpp, Florida Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, who is also running for the Senate in Florida, has a good conservative record while he served in the Florida legislature, and that ACU is looking to be play a “responsible and fair” role in all contested GOP primary races across the country.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
We want to play a role in all of these important primary elections… We need to send more conservatives to congress.”
One wild card in this all-important Florida Senate race is Dan Bongino, who reported last week has hinted that he could be eyeing Senator Marco Rubio’s Senate seat.
