The console version of breakout adventure game hit Gone Home is still alive. When a publishing deal with Majesco fell through, developer Fullbright canceled the console port of the popular PC game back in March. However, the deal is now back on, and the release is coming soon: the game will be coming to both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 12th. Unfortunately, there's no Wii U version as originally planned.

"Our goal wasn't to add or change things."

The new version will be largely identical to the one that earned critical acclaim back in 2013, including winning game of the year honors from our sister-site Polygon. "Ever since Gone Home came out we've wanted to be able to bring it to people who maybe aren't PC gamers, or don't have a good enough computer, or who just want to play in their living room, maybe to share the experience with a friend or loved one from the comfort of their couch," explains designer Steve Gaynor. "Our goal wasn't to add or change things, but just to bring the game that players know and love onto consoles in the best possible form we could."

Gone Home follows the story of a young college student who arrives back home after backpacking through Europe, only to find her family is nowhere to be found. Its unique atmosphere and powerful environmental storytelling helped usher in a new wave of non-violent, exploration-based games, including Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and next year's Adrift. It was the first release from Fullbright, and the developer is already working on the follow-up: a sci-fi mystery called Tacoma.
