With 2016 just around the corner, billionaire Donald Trump seems to have the Republican presidential nomination all locked up, that’s if all of the national polling being conducted in the race is accurate.
Trump has a “yuge” lead over the entire field of presidential candidates, with Senator Ted Cruz surging to second, while Dr. Ben Carson is in a political freefall, and Senator Marco Rubio possibly seeing his chance at becoming president slipping away.Rubio and Cruz have been going back in forth about which of them had the strongest foreign policy bona fides, and from what the latest CNN post-debate polls are indicating, Cruz appears to have gotten the best of Rubio.
Rubio’s past cosponsoring and support of the Senate “Gang of Eight” immigration reform bill has been the one obstacle that has diminished his standing among conservatives, and has led many political pundits and activists to believe that if it weren’t for his flip-flop on immigration reform, Rubio would have been cleared the field of 2016 GOP presidential candidates.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Let me go a little further.
Here is the very first interview I conducted with Rubio back in March 2009, where he stated that he would never support any form of amnesty for illegal immigrants.
If Rubio would have stuck to his pro-immigration, anti-amnesty for illegal immigrants position, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, John Kasich, and a few others, may not have entered the race because Rubio would have already locked up the necessary support to win him the nomination.
According to the Realclearpolitics.com average of polls, on November 6, 2015, Rubio led Cruz 11.9% to 7.5%. On December 4, 2015, the two men were tied at 13.5%, but just a few weeks later on December 20, Cruz surged past Rubio 17.1% to 12.3%.
This downward trend could show how Rubio’s past immigration position could very well have ended his presidential campaign before it even began.
It is still too early to call, and because there is always an “October surprise” lingering around every corner, the GOP nomination for president is still up in the air, and Rubio, like Cruz, still have a chance to give Donald Trump a run for his money.
But even if Cruz or Rubio lose to Trump, Trump will have to fill his cabinet with strong conservative Americans, leading me to believe that Cruz would make a great Attorney General, and Rubio a great Secretary of State.
