Golden residents will decide who will serve as their mayor for the next four years and choose two council members in the upcoming November election.

Golden’s mayor is up for reelection, facing two challengers.

Golden’s City Council has six other members. Four are elected from wards, two are elected from districts (each district is comprised of two wards.)

Two candidates are on the ballot this year to represent District 1, which covers the city south of 21st Street. Three candidates are vying for the District 2 seat to represent downtown Golden and up to the city’s northern limits.

Mayor Marjorie Sloan is running for re-election and has two opponents, both who are more recent residents of the city.

Caleb J. Barcus and his wife have lived in Golden since 2012, according to the October 2015 issue of the Golden Informer.

Chris Darr and his family have lived in Golden for almost three years, he said in the Golden Informer.

In District 1, Saoirse Charis-Graves is seeking re-election for her seat. Her challenger, Paul Haseman, is a graduate of West Point and is vice president of an aerospace group, according to his website, paul4golden.com.

District 2 City Councilwoman Marcie Miller is not running for re-election. Candidate Casey L. Brown has served or is serving on various boards and commissions, including the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at present and the planning commission from 2009 to 2014, according to his website, caseyforgolden.com.

District 2 candidate Mikey Sheridan grew up in Conifer and his mother is from Golden, his profile in the Golden Informer said.

The third District 2 candidate, Lauree Valverde, grew up in Golden and returned with her family in 2007. She has served as co-president of Mitchell Elementary’s PTA for two years.
