Fallout 4 launch dents Pornhub's gamer traffic, says Pornhub

Pornhub, bless its horny little heart, keeps coming up with novel ways to get free publicity, and damn if they don't work. Now the live streaming masturbation aid claims its traffic — from gamers, not overall — plunged on the day of Fallout 4's launch.

This graph, supplied by PornHub yesterday (link is safe, don't worry), shows the site's traffic dropping significantly at 4 a.m. ET on Nov. 11, around the time most who downloaded (and didn't pre-load) the game probably finished installing it.

Notably, Pornhub saw an unexplained spike in traffic beginning at midnight, about 10 percent above what it had been 24 hours before, It's possible some were, uh, up at that time to start fetching Fallout 4 and then passing the time until it finished. (A normal day for Pornhub is around 60 million unique visitors.)

PornHub says this isn't its overall traffic figure — it is traffic from gamers, which it says is data "based on anonymized 'affinity' statistics from Google Analytics."

Pornhub says its traffic remained, uh, limp until around 3 p.m. when it returned to normal patterns, indicating some kind of well deserved break from the Wasteland. At 6 p.m. they were right back to not looking at porn, as if any of us watch porn, really, maybe some other guys but not me.

Of those abandoning Pornhub, sports gamers fled in the largest numbers. RPG fans — again this is Pornhub's analysis — didn't seem to leave in significant enough numbers. So, here's to my sports bros, masters of their domain.

"As huge fans of the game, we can't say we blame anyone for swapping Pornhub time for some Pip-Boy surfing instead," Corey Price, a Pornhub VP, told GamesBeat. "We would have done the same."

This isn't Pornhub's only entanglement with the blockbuster game. Back in August, someone smuggled shakycam footage of the game out of Gamescom and hosted it on Pornhub, where the video remained resistant to the takedowns that had removed it from non-porny video sites.

Back in January, Pornhub published a comprehensive breakdown of what it says its trafffic sources are, by console, showing Xbox and PlayStation platforms in a commanding lead and the Nintendo 3DS comprising just 1.1 percent of its traffic.
