She previously had figures available, but was omitted from the official figure play set and Hasbro's most recent version of Star Wars Monopoly. In this second wave, she's not only featured in each, but in other action figure variations is also wearing the Resistance outfit seen in the final scenes of the film and wielding the lightsaber previously belonging to Luke and Anakin Skywalker.Along with Rey, Finn and General Leia will also be getting new toys, Finn with a new First Order Stormtrooper getup complete with the bloody helmet, and General Leia as part of the official playset. Check out the gallery below to see some of the upcoming offerings. The approaching release suggests this wave of toys has not specifically been manufactured in response to public outcry and the #WheresRey campaign on social media, but the announcement has been timed to comment on it.
“This new wave of product has got key elements from the film. You see Rey with a saber, her blaster, and a number of other elements we wanted to hold back until the film had been released,” Lucasfilm Head of Licensing Paul Southern told EW. “The timing is good to try to address some of the social discussion that has been created through the ‘Where’s Rey?’ movement.”
The film's heroine has quickly become a favorite with fans, which has proved surprising to merchandise manufacturers.“Rey is clearly the standout character in the film,” said Southern. “We always knew that was going to be the case, but the excitement around her is a lot more than we were expecting it to be.”
