Throw in a lot of colours, loud visuals and typical Balaji dialogues (they’re the producers) that induce (or atleast try to) claps every minute, and you get Azhar.

Love him, hate him, judge him.

That’s the tag line for the trailer of Azhar starring Emraan Hashmi as the revered cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin. Upon watching the trailer, you realise it does exactly that, in the most sensationalist way possible.

The clear graph of trailer first establishes a macho looking Emraan Hashmi as Azharuddin and his potential as a cricketer, and therefore cue heavy guitars as background score and slow-mo shots.

We then see his personal life: his relationship with his wife, played by Prachi Desai, his battles with bookies, and his extra marital affair with a woman named Sangeeta, played by Nargis Fakhri.

Throw in a lot of colours, loud visuals and typical Balaji dialogues (they’re the producers) that induce (or atleast try to) claps every minute, and you get Azhar.

To the trailer’s credit, the cast seems impressive. There’s Lara Dutta, Rajesh Sharma (of No One Killed Jessica fame) and even reality-tv star Gautam Gulati in the film, apart from the three lead actors, whose performances make the trailer watchable in the least.

Emraan Hashmi, on the other hand, has been rocking the intense, muted look since his Murder days, and just by putting a moustache on his face, that won’t change.

You’re left so stunned by the sensationalist fireworks through the Azhar trailer that it’s difficult to concentrate on anything else. If that rocks your boat, sure the trailer is good. But it’s also like the kind of dog that barks with all its might, but won’t really do much. We felt like we were watching Once Upon A Time in Mumbai set in the cricketing world. Sorry Emraan. We hope you prove us wrong?
