Petition update

Here's what happened in Yulin and why we're not giving up

Hello, You’re surely waiting for news about what happened in Yulin this year, and we have some infuriating news! The festival took place despite unprecedented global opposition. We have more support than ever, and the fight is far from over. We will not stop until we stop this annual festival. Media reports and activists on the ground tell tragic stories of dogs in cages, carcasses out on display, and hostile vendors waving weapons at those trying to offer any bit of care to animals who were still alive. Another side of the story is unfolding though, and it’s one of hope and courage. There are inspiring reports of animals being rescued, activists protesting at Yulin City Hall despite harassment and intimidation, and international media stories about the millions of people who signed this petition. The whole world is watching, and Chinese authorities know this is a larger movement than last year. If they don’t cancel, next year will be even bigger. We are not going away and the cultural shift in China is pointing towards big changes in animal welfare for dogs and cats. As Dr. Peter Li of Humane Society International says, “The bond between companion animals and humans is not Western. It's a transcultural phenomenon." Raise UR Paw was started as a very small grassroots group in Canada. We never in a million years could have imagined a day where four million people signed a petition we started. We’re deeply upset by the massacre in Yulin, but also know that social change takes time. We will be consulting further with expert organizations to coordinate additional events and actions you can take. Your support will continue to have an impact so please look for updates soon! If we at Raise Ur Paw can do our part by mobilizing millions to make a change across China and around the world, we know it’s worth every minute we have spent thus far. It’s sad and frustrating work at time, but we’d feel even worse if everyone stopped caring! Thank you. Raise Ur Paw PS - There are many inspiring campaigns on Change.org.
