I can hear the sigh of relief from Jim Waldman and Gary Farmer from here.

State Rep. Kristin Jacobs, D-Coconut Creek, will not run for state Senate against them.

Kristin Jacobs: Staying In House

The speculation for months was that Jacobs, a first term House member, was considering jumping into the race for the open north Broward seat. Many political observers considered Jacobs would be Waldman and Farmer’s toughest opponent as a popular former county commissioner and a strong environmentalist.

“I’ve done a ton of soul searching. There have been many people who have encouraged me. (However) I’m in the House and I’ve got a lot of projects I’m working on. I want to stay and make a difference,” Jacobs told Browardbeat.com.

Former state House member Waldman and lawyer Farmer are running for the seat now held by State Sen. Jeremy Ring, D-Margate, who is term limited next year.

The future boundaries of the district are uncertain due to the current redistricting taking place in Tallahassee.

Without meaning to be nasty or personal, the landscape is full of people who over my 60 plus years of observing politics got too ambitious and ran for every higher office at every opportunity and destroyed their careers too early. I think the State Representative who used to be my County Commissioner has “chosen wisely” as the Crusader said to Indiana Jones in the “Last Crusade”.

  2. Floridan says:

Good to have an elected official who wants “to make a difference” where she is rather than spending her time scheming and scrambling to capture the next position up.

On the other hand, there’s Marco Rubio.

  3. Lucille Guerro says:

Jacobs is one of the rare honorable politicians who does the job she was “hired” to do rather than constantly concern herself with moving up. She is a voice for sensible environmental positions in a state Legislature that doesn’t care about the future of our environment at all. You go girl.

  4. Alex says:

We’re lucky to have her serving. There should be more positive stories in the media about our elected officials.
