Mario Diaz-Balart Backs Steve Scalise for Majority Leader

U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., announced on Wednesday night that he was backing U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., to become House majority leader. 

“I have had the pleasure of working with Steve Scalise on a number of complex issues, as well as part of the whip team,” Diaz-Balart said. “Steve works inclusively, knows how to get things done, and most importantly, is a man of his word. Steve has honorably and effectively served the House of Representatives as majority whip. I look forward to what he will be able to accomplish as majority leader.”

Scalise is running to replace U.S. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who is looking to take U.S. House Speaker John Boehner’s, R-Ohio, place as he departs Congress.
