See Carrie Underwood Behind the Scenes of Sleek ‘Dirty Laundry’ Video
Carrie Underwood reveals the details of her striking “Dirty Laundry” music video in a brand new behind-the-scenes clip, saying she wanted to take an unexpected approach to her latest done-me-wrong anthem.
The fourth single from Underwood’s Storyteller album, “Dirty Laundry” was co-written by Zach Crowell, Ashley Gorley and Hillary Lindsey and follows a dastardly cheater getting caught by his girl – but she’s not even bothering to bust up his truck with a baseball bat this time. She’ll just let that “dirty laundry” get some air.
“The girl in the story talks about getting rid of his laundry, that’s how she finds out he’s been cheating on her, and that’s not a new story – the lipstick on your collar story,” Underwood explains. “It’s just done in such a nonchalant way, it’s not too angry, it’s not like ‘I’m gonna get revenge.’ It’s not ‘Before He Cheats.’ It’s more like, ‘You know what? I’m over it, I don’t care. I’m done.'”
Directed by Shane Drake, the clip features Underwood embracing the role of the scorned lover with ease, showing off two separate but equally dangerous looks – one inspired by menswear where she rocks a pair of backwards suspenders, and another softer, more glammed-up outfit with a sparkling black jacket. But rather than act out the song, the superstar and her team went for a more artistic approach.
“It’s black-and-white and we brought in people to be one-on-one with the camera,” she says. “It’s just all about emotion. It’s not following the storyline too much, which is something I really didn’t want to do.”
