Expect the windy conditions with gusts of 25 to 30 mph to last for much of this week. And because of the winds, beware of rip currents at the beaches.

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a rip current warning which will remain in effect through Tuesday morning.

South Florida’s Monday forecast calls for a mix of sun and clouds with a high temperature of about 81 degrees, a low of about 75 and a 30 percent chance of rain.

Winds today will be from the northeast at about 24 mph, with gusts up to 31 mph.

There should be more sun and a lower chance of rain on Tuesday.

Beach renourishment: From weather expert Jim Lushine:

The prolonged period of above normal tides, swells from Hurricane Joaquin and the strong onshore winds expected this week have shrunk the beaches of South Florida considerably.

Even before these events there were plans to renourish the beaches, and after hurricane season would be a good time to do just that.

Although the beach will look much better, there is an increased risk of rip currents until the new sand is stabilized.
