Teach Kids Gratitude With These Tips at Different Ages

The benefits of gratitude aren't just for adults. You can teach gratitude to children, too. The key is to make the lessons age appropriate.

Over at Time magazine they interviewed Christine Carter. She's director of the Greater Good Science Center Parenting Program at the University of California Berkeley. Parents can teach each age group gratitude with a different question or activity:

  1. Elementary school: Ask them to "name three good things about your day"

  2. Middle School: Suggest they to show gratitude by drawing it

  3. High School: Encourage them to volunteer for those less fortunate

These are just starter tips, of course. Teaching gratitude to children is a lifelong journey, but don't assume they're too young to understand. Check out the link for more on teaching this valuable lesson.
