If you plan on traveling internationally, you might be surprised to see what countries have for their second language. This interactive map makes it easy to explore the whole world and see how many places might let you get by with just English.

The map below, from Olivet Nazarene University, uses data from the CIA world factbook to list the second most spoken languages in every country on every continent. Just pick a continent, select a country, and you’ll see what the second most spoken languages are, in addition to their official languages. It’s important to note that “second most spoken” means second most spoken after the official languages, however many there are.
