Breaking News: Starved Dog Abandoned in Cold. ARL and Dedham Animal Control Seeking Public’s Help with Information.
DO YOU RECOGNIZE THIS DOG? Contact Dedham Animal Control, (781) 751-9106
Stitch was found very weak with no body fat. If you have tips or recognize this dog, contact Dedham Animal Control at (781) 751-9106.
The Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) and the Dedham Police Department’s Animal Control Division need the public’s assistance with information about a starved dog abandoned in the cold earlier today in Dedham, Massachusetts.
Dedham animal control officer Jayson Tracy received a call about the dog just before noon this morning.
He discovered the dog suffering from extreme starvation and immediately contacted the ARL for assistance.
“This dog was cruelly abandoned,” explains Lt. Alan Borgal, director of the ARL’s law enforcement team. “He has no body fat to speak of — he could have easily died of exposure in the cold today if he wasn’t found so quickly.”
Now known as Stitch, the dilute brindle pit-bull-type dog had no collar and is approximately 2 years of age.
Though he is clearly weak and sore, Stitch has greeted everyone he has met with a friendly tail wag. He happily accepted pats, cheek scratches, and kind attention at the ARL’s Boston shelter.
“Anyone who might recognize this dog, please come forward,” urges Lt. Borgal. “We want to find the person who did this to Stitch and prevent cruelty against other animals in the future.”
TIPS AND INFORMATION?
Contact Dedham Animal Control at (781) 751-9106.
PLEASE NOTE, Stitch is currently not available for adoption. http://bit.ly/HelpStitch
This Baby Bat Broke His Wing …Then His Rescuer Did Something Awesome to Help. Bats are some of the most misunderstood animals on the planet. Most people fear or recoil at the mention of the word “bat,” but they play a vital role in our global ecosystem. Pollination by bats make many of the foods we enjoy possible, and these animals are also great at controlling mosquito and pest populations. While some people might think bats are scary, the reality is that a world without bats would be much scarier for us.
Bats are endangered by habitat loss, human conflict, and the disease White-Nose Syndrome. Although bat populations are in decline, the good news is that many people are beginning to take action in defense of these animals. Take this kind person who is helping to rehabilitate a baby bat, for example.
This good samaritan rescued the cutest baby bat ever after it had injured its wing. Bed rest and good food are a start, but if this little one was ever going to fly again they’d need to find a way to keep the baby still. If the baby bat flopped around or tried to fly before the wing was healed, it could be permanently injured. A sling would work, but who keeps bat sized slings around? So this good samaritan put on their thinking cap and came up with this awesome solution.
Who knew a sock could work as a makeshift bat sling? They even decided to use a batman sock which is totally awesome!
This is adorable and we’re glad to see that people are treating bats like the awesome animals they are. Do you know someone who doesn’t believe that bats can be cute? Send them this. We guarantee that it’ll change their mind!
NOTE: As an important note, do not try to help wildlife of any sort unless you are trained. Find a local wildlife rehabber/rescuer or veterinarian ASAP, or call a rescue hotline. Here are some that might help! Image source: Imgur.
Dog Abandoned to The Streets Receives A Life-Saving Transformation. Dog abandoned to the streets of Orange County had lost all hope until one hair cut changed his life.
#pawsitivetransformation #adopt
Full Story:
Joey was found wandering the streets of Orange County, California only three months ago. He was picked up by OC Animal Care. His hair had been heavily matted and dirty from neglect. He was found at a common dumping ground for dogs so likely he once had a home.
His disposition seemed almost feral having spent so much time without love and human contact. People just don't look at dogs at the shelter that seem fearful, aggressive or "ugly." The likelihood of adoption in his condition were slim to none.
OC Animal Care teamed up with Hollywood Rescue Grooming a 501(c)(3) to come out for one day to groom as many dogs as possible in hopes of getting them adopted.
After Joey was groomed, he was visibly relieved. He was finally free of his painful, matted fur and receiving attention that he had longed for - for what seemed like ages. His transformation was not just on the outside but reached within him as well.
That day, Hollywood Groomers cut, groomed, spruced and glammed up 56 dogs and since then all have found homes, including Joey.
Every dog deserves a second look, a second chance and a second home! Please share Joey's story to inspire everyone to #adopt

Puppies Saved From Sewer Drain Get a New, Cushy Life Thanks to Rescuers. Pet homelessness is a big problem. There are more than 70 million homeless cats and dogs in the U.S. alone. Sadly, many of these sweet animals are left on the streets to fend for themselves, or end up in shelters where they can only hope to be adopted. Luckily, there are some very caring people out there who take it upon themselves to help these animals in need. That’s exactly what happened when a woman found a litter of puppies taking shelter in a sewer drain.
She immediately gathered up the puppies and began a campaign to help find each and every one of them a home. In a happy ending, each one of the pups found a loving home within a week and lucky for us, one of their new parents took to Imgur to share the story.
When a litter of puppies was found in a sewer drain, a good samaritan stepped in to help find them all homes.
Seeing a post about the pups on Facebook, a kind woman took the most scared one home.
The first stop was to the vet for a visit, but a little rest and relaxation in the car was due.
One year later, this pup is one happy camper.
And he loves his mom and doggy siblings.
Like, really loves her.
Just think, this pup was once sleeping in a concrete drain instead of a bed.
Oh yea, beds are the best.
With so many helpless dogs and cats out there, we’re so glad there are incredible people willing to given them a warm, loving home. Thinking about making a furry companion a part of your family? Always remember to adopt, not shop and visit your local shelter to bring a little furbaby into your life. All image source: junathan86/Flickr.
Abandoned Mini Horses Found Covered With Matted Hair and Filth Get Full Makeover. Animal Control in Vigo Indiana was called in to rescue four mini horses who had been abandoned on a property. Mini horses are bred specifically to be small. Like teacup dogs, they are considered “fad” pets and are also subject to being abandoned by owners who no longer want to care for them. With no one to look after them, the animals were in terrible shape, with filth and feces piled up as deep as 30 inches in some places. With limited resources to address a situation like this, authorities called in Horse Shoe Equine Rescue in Terra Haute Indiana, to help.
The horses had obviously been neglected for quite some time before dumped and left to their own devices. This situation was made incredibly evident by this horse’s badly matted mane.
With filth and feces piling up in a confined area, these poor animals were beginning to literally swim in their own waste.
Without proper upkeep, the horses’ hooves were entirely overgrown.
Luckily, the Horse Shoe Equine Rescue has a dedicated staff who was ready and able to tackle serious problems like these. Soon, they had these horses groomed and shining, a testament to their hard work.
Thanks to the combined efforts of Animal Control and Horse Shoe Equine Rescue, these horses can put all of that pain and suffering behind them and begin the next phase of their lives, safe and secure.
Horse Shoe Equine Rescue is an amazing, non-profit organization, dedicated to saving the lives of neglected, abused, and abandoned animals like these. 5 Puppies Rescued After Fireworks in San Antonio Filmed Using 360 Degree Camera.
Watch Katie Boggs Rescue 5 Puppies, 3 Strays, and Reunite a Dog named Kika because she had a Microchip All on New Years Day in 360 degree Virtual Reality format! See more and support these incredible rescues here: http://www.WA2S.org
San Antonio celebrates the New Year with fun and fireworks, which were lovely. But the aftermath for dogs can be disturbing. The fireworks tend to freak out dogs and displace them as they try to get away from the booming noises. This can mean stray dogs lose their way, owned dogs bolt from their homes which results in a higher number of dogs in the streets than usual. We met with Katie Boggs of Katie's Roadside Rescue (www.krrtx.org) and rode along with her to see the fallout of the festivities.
After having seen a handful, we came upon 2 roaming dogs that didn’t run when we pulled over. One was a rather scruffy white dog that had clearly been traveling through very muddy areas, the other a black dog with tan and white accents. They both were quite interested in the treats Katie offered.
We were in a neighborhood and the question was, are these dogs owned? Neither had a collar or tags but Katie scanned both for micro-chips; the black one had one. Micro-chips only work however, if the owner registers the dog. So Katie contacted the micro-chip company and gave them the number in hopes of learning who the owner was. Typically they give her information immediately; however for some reason this time, they needed to investigate and call her back. For more on this rescue and to see all do rescue videos, go to: http://www.WA2S.org
We saw a handful of dogs in this area, but then headed to the “neighborhood from hell.” Katie had been watching a few different situations in this area and we were going to check on them.
First, there was a gray dog that was losing his hair and in serious need of help. Katie had been trying to trap this dog for weeks to no avail as he would not walk into the trap, even for tasty wet food. We found him near some other intimidating owned dogs but since he knows Katie’s van, which means food, he followed us back to a parking lot where Katie could safely try to trap him again.

Sloth Found Clinging to Highway Crash Barrier Gets Rescued and Returned to Forest Home. Life for sloths might seem pretty relaxed and laid back – after all, they do give the impression of being the world’s most chill animals – in reality, however, it can be anything but. Many sloth species are listed as threatened or in danger of extinction due to habitat loss and human encroachment. These animals make their homes in the treetops of South American rainforests and as these forests are cut down, for logging, agricultural and cattle grazing interests, or to make way for new developments, they are being stranded with nowhere to go.
As humans move into closer range with sloths, these animals are being faced with dangers that they are not equipped to deal with. One of the major ones being car traffic. When you pair fast moving vehicles with slow moving animals, things can get dangerous quickly. Unfortunately, this was the reality that one sloth had to face when he wandered onto a highway in Ecuador.
Authorities were alerted to the presence of a little sloth who was found clinging to a crash barrier.
Thankfully, they arrived just in time to divert traffic and keep this little cutie safe.
After evaluating his condition, it was decided the sloth would get the ultimate happy ending! The Comisión de Tránsito del Ecuador (Transit Commission of Ecuador) posted on Facebook stating,“The sloth bear rescued by our unit was reviewed by a veterinarian, who determined that it was in optimal condition to be returned to its habitat.”
Thanks to the actions of these kind officers, this lost and frightened sloth will return to the forest where he belongs! We can only hope that he won’t be tempted to try and cross the road again anytime soon. To learn more about sloths and see more amazing sloth rescues, click here. Lessons I Learned From Rescuing a One-Eyed Chihuahua. It was a love started in the most modern way: Facebook. The Fuzzy Pet Foundation, which works to save injured, disabled, and abandoned animals, shared its newest extreme rescue: a one-eyed, emaciated dog with a broken spirit. Something about the expression in his eye made my heart swell. Rescuers speculated that this poor Chihuahua-mix, later named Boombi, had been used as bait for illegal dog fighting, and it was clear that he would need alot of TLC to trust humans again. I didn’t know if I could help him, but I knew I had to try. It was then that I asked to be his foster.
Meet Boombi.
Boombi had many challenges stemming from his life of abuse and neglect. He didn’t dare trust another person and would hardly let me touch him for the first three weeks. At night, he would stay frozen in his crate, clinging to a stuffed tiger squeaky toy, the only thing that provided him comfort throughout his rescue. I had been warned to never touch his back as it would send him into a tail-chasing frenzy for what seemed to last forever. He also suffered from occasional seizures, which his vet said was due to head trauma he had suffered in his earlier life. There were moments when I wondered if it was too late for Boombi. It seemed that the distress from whatever he had gone through, dogfighting or otherwise, that took his eye, resurfaced constantly. But then, something amazing happened… One morning I woke up to find Boombi snuggled next to me on my comforter, gazing at me with that deep golden eye, I knew something had changed. Slowly, but surely, Boombi learned to trust, love, and live without fear.
Boombi shows off his happy smile.
Over time, Boombi transformed into a new dog, but he wasn’t the only one who changed. Seeing him overcome struggles no one should ever have to face, inspired me to be a better person too. Here are the lessons that caring for this wonderful one-eyed Chihuahua taught me:
1. Never Forget Kindness
The day I signed the adoption papers for Boombi, my roommates and I had a party. We decided to make it a Boombiversary of sorts, with a spread of tapas, sangria, and Boombi’s favorite treats. When the volunteer from the Fuzzy Pet Foundation came over with the documents, she was delighted to find a handsome, stocky Boombi eagerly jumping into her lap. After over a year, he recognized her right away, she was one of the first people to show him kindness when he was rescued, and he never forgot.
2. Flaws Make Us Special
Boombi still bumps into things – hence the name “BOOM!-bi” – every once in awhile. It also takes time for him to warm up to new people. When I take Boombi to outdoor cafes, the beach, or his favorite park, I warn people who want to pet him – I mean, who can resist that one-eyed stare? I explain to them that it’s best to admire him from a short distance. Occasionally, I’ll envy the person with the big, floppy, all-American dog who wants to play and shake paws with everyone. But Boombi’s challenges make him special and deserving of as much love as any other dog. At the end of the day, no matter what struggles he has, his warm heart and caring soul make everything worth it. If given the chance, I would pick Boombi again and again.
Besides, he’s quite dapper too.
3. Let Your Dog Pick Your Life Partner
It was Boombi’s discerning taste that chose my husband, Nick. The first time the new fella in my life came to visit my apartment, I left the room to make coffee. When I came back minutes later, Boombi was lying on Nick’s chest, gazing at him fondly. It was an unprecedented moment: by far – far – the fastest Boombi had taken to warm to a new person.
“We like you,” I told him.
4. Special Needs Animals Need Us … and We Just Might Need Them
Every year, animal shelters take in 7.6 million companion animals and 2.7 million of those animals are euthanized. Special-needs animals like Boombi have even less a chance to make it out alive. If we want to help lessen the suffering caused by animal homelessness and overrun shelters, adopting a companion animal rather than buying is an absolute must.
Boombi now loves to be close to his family.
5. You Don’t Need to be Perfect to be Perfect for Someone
If you never thought before of adopting or fostering a special-needs animal, consider this: you don’t need to be the most experienced. You just need to have love to give. You’ll be amazed at how the minor inconveniences can be assuaged or even forgotten when love flows in through the cracks to where it was previously a void. When Boombi stares at me like this as I type, I feel all the appreciation I need, and can’t wait to take a cuddle break to show how much I appreciate him.
Excuse me, mom. It’s time for a cuddle session.
6. View Challenges as Opportunities for Growth
When Boombi and I moved in with Nick, the tiger squeaky toy he clung to as a puppy, while scared in his crate, had disappeared. Boombi had plenty of new toys, a basket full of them, in fact – and I thought nothing of it, until over a year later. Recently, when moving some dusty records off the bookshelf, I saw something fall to the ground. I didn’t hear it land, so I continued to rifle through the records until I heard that familiar squeak. Turning, I saw Boombi rejoicing over his reunion with his old friend, the dulled orange stripes sticking out of his mouth as he pranced around the living room. Suddenly, the memories came flooding back to me, the long nights of seizures and barking and tail chasing, the shaking, skinny little boy who arrived in a crate with just a tiger to his name. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Boombi and I taking on the world.

Rescuers Save Poor Dog Who Lost His Face to Horrible Injury. You Won’t Believe His Transformation. Animal Aid Unlimited, a stray dog rescue organization located in India, is used to saving animals in desperate need of care, but nothing could have prepared them for this particular rescue.
The rescue team found a dog at the bottom of a pit, where he had gone to die. The dog, which they named Kalu, was missing a large part of his skull and from what they could tell, one of his eyes as well. Covered in dirt and maggots, his wound had mostly likely been infected for a long time.
In most cases, a dog like Kalu would be euthanized because of the enormity of their suffering. However, moments from euthanasia, something about Kalu’s spirit convinced rescuers to fight for his life with everything they had.
This is where Kalu was found.
With a large wound that exposed his skull, Kalu had most likely crawled into the pit to die alone.
But rescuers would not let him die. Something about Kalu’s spirit told them that they needed to give this dog a chance.
After a procedure to remove the maggots and clean the wound, rescuers made sure that he was always comfortable. After three days, started to eat from the hand of a rescuer.
After five days, Kalu’s left eye appeared.
And three months later…
…Kalu would not have lived if not for Animal Aid Unlimited! But just look at him now! Although this dog might have given up on life, rescuers never gave up on him.
Kalu’s amazing recovery teaches us that even animals who have experienced the worst forms of trauma can go on to live happy lives with a little help from kind people.
To see the full video of Kalu’s incredible rescue, watch below. Be warned, the images of his injuries are very graphic:

Three-Legged Dog Rescued From Greece Gets a Prosthetic Limb Thanks to the Generosity Strangers. Pauline the dog was found on the streets of a small city in Greece with the lower half of one leg missing. No one quite knows what happened to Pauline that caused her to lose part of her limb, but thankfully, some good-hearted people came to her rescue and brought her to a home in Canada.
Her caretakers described Pauline as a sweet and gentle soul, but she couldn’t play, run, or have fun like most other four-legged dogs. However, Pauline touched the hearts of many who heard her story, and when it became known that Pauline was in need of a prosthetic leg, strangers from all over the world stepped in to help.
Through a GoFundMe page and generous fundraising from the nonprofit Tails From Greece, the rescue she was adopted from, Pauline was able to get a new leg! Check out her first stroll with four legs with her prosthetic prototype in these photos below.
Her mom said Pauline is already putting weight on it and taking a few steps.
The prosthetic will need some adjustments, but we think Pauline looks doggone-good with her new leg.
Standing on all fours!
What a happy girl!
Pauline will need rehabilitation to get used to her new leg, but for now, she is up and walking like a pro! If you would like to help Pauline with her recovery, visit her GoFundMe page. You can also help support other dogs like Pauline, by checking out Tails From Greece rescue, from where she was adopted. To read Pauline’s original rescue story, click here. Abandoned Puppy With Fractured Leg Gets Rescued From a Cliff by Kind Army Officer Candidates. There are around 70 million stray animals in the United States. Despite the fact that dogs and cats are some of the most popular pets, there is still an enormous problem with pet overpopulation. Luckily, there are many kind people who are working to lower the statistics surrounding pet homelessness by coming to the aid of animals in need. As Green Monsters, we are always ready to lend a hand – after all, you never know when a needy animal might just fall into your lap. Just take this story for example.
This five-month-old puppy was found on the cliffs of the Upatoi Bank, Georgia by three army officer candidates. He was howling for help all night and couldn’t walk on his own. When rescuers got to him, his breathing was labored due to an unknown injury.
After they gave him some food and blankets, the pup was feeling better. But it was clear that a visit to the vet was in order.
The vet diagnosed him with a non-comminuted tibial fracture (a compound fracture in his right leg). It was decided that the sweet pup would need surgery along with lots of meds and a cone!
His real personality came out a few days after surgery. He became a happy, playful little pup who happened to have a knack for laying on top of people just like a cat would.
His rescuers later learned that he was abandoned with his brother out in the woods by their previous owner. Another good Samaritan was driving them to the vet and he jumped out of the back of the truck which caused the fracture.
The surgery the dog needed cost a whopping $2,400 and the rescuers are currently footing the bill. You can help them out with payments by visiting their GoFundMe page. The puppy also needs a name, so you can send in a name suggestion with your donation!
This pup is doing great at his new home thanks to the time, care, and the love he’s being given. He’s house trained, well behaved, and has an amazing spirit. To help this little guy get the continued care he needs, share this post! All image source: Imgur

Opossum Shot Through Head With Arrows Deserves Justice. Click Here To Help!
Target: Riverside, California District Attorney Michael Hestrin. Goal: Ensure the maximum penalty for the person who shot an opossum in the head with two crossbow arrows.
An opossum was found with two crossbow arrows in its head. Both arrows completely penetrated the opossum’s head, one near its eye. Photos of the animal were released and one shows the poor opossum attempting to remove one of the arrows himself. To animal control officers’ amazement, it managed to survive and was rushed to a veterinarian for surgery.
The Riverside County Department of Animal Services is investigating and looking for the person responsible for this deplorable, violent crime. Anybody capable of this level of cruelty to an innocent animal is a danger to all living beings and should be locked away from society. Please demand that the person who committed this horrendous act of violence against a helpless animal be given the most severe penalty possible, when found.
Dear Mr. Hestrin,
An opossum was found alive with two arrows in its head. The poor animal had clearly been shot with a crossbow by a human who is cruel, dangerous, and has no regard for other life. The opossum was attempting to remove one of the arrows from its head when officers arrived and rushed him to a shelter for surgery.
The suffering the opossum had to endure was probably horrifying. Shooting it was cruel enough, but to leave it to suffer like that just shows what a monster the offender must be. We urge you to display zero tolerance towards such brutal cruelty and help see to it that the person responsible for this receives the most severe penalty the law can allow.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]

Amazing: This Kitten Was Adopted By A Husky! Amazing: When Rosie, the kitten, was found, she was a mere three weeks old and on the brink of death. Lilo, the husky, took up the challenge of nursing Rosie back to health and becoming her surrogate mother. Rosie first opened her eyes a week after she was discovered, and began walking soon after that. Despite the fact that she nearly didn't make it through the first night when she was discovered, Rosie is now six months old and doing fantastically well. She even goes out for walks in the park with her mom, and hangs out with her mom's other husky friends.
Here are some super-cute pictures of the most unusual mom-and-daughter duo, together with a couple of mom's friends. Lilo the husky even has her own Instagram page, so be sure to take a look at that too:

This Baby Rhino Lost His Mom, So He Sleeps With a Blanket for Comfort. Ringo the baby rhino is an orphan. While the details of how he came to be a resident of Ol Pejeta Conservancy in South Africa are unknown, he now lives with round-the-clock care from volunteers. Unfortunately, it’s likely that Ringo lost his mother to poachers who sought to sell her horn on the black market. How is it that something that’s no different from our fingernails is worth the price of $60,000 per kilo and the destruction of a family?
Without their mothers, baby rhinos are completely helpless and require constant care. Like other baby animals, they imprint on their caretaker. In the case of orphaned rhinos, they’re usually cared for by three different people.
The blanket that Ringo wears in the photo is more than just cute. Baby rhinos need to be tucked into bed with an article of clothing or a blanket that smells like their caretaker because, in the wild, they would always be surrounded by their mother’s familiar scent.
It’s wonderful that Ringo and other orphan rhinos have humans who have dedicated their lives to picking up the pieces of broken families that poaching leaves behind. While these humans deserve all the kudos in their world, their jobs exist because rhinos are being killed for their horns in alarming numbers. The battle to save the rhinos starts with education. To learn more about what rhinos are up against and what we can do, check out this article. Share this post and encourage others to stand up for this struggling species! Police rescue bull elk stuck in pile of snow in Oregon. Oregon State Fish and Wildlife troopers rescued a six point bull elk that was stuck in the snow near Prineville two days after Christmas.
According to the Oregon State Police, the person who reported the bull elk said the animal had jumped over a guardrail and flipped over, landing on his back in the snow.
The elk struggled to right himself, kicking and writhing around until the troopers used a rope to pull him right-side up. He must have exhausted himself, because after the troopers turned him over, he was at first unable to stand on his own four legs. But after a few minutes, he managed to hobble away.
The bodycam footage was posted to the Oregon State Police YouTube channel, along with the note that the timecode in the video is incorrect, srating that the incident happened on Dec. 27.
Escaped kinkajou woke up 99-year-old Miami woman by caressing her face in bed.
A 99-year-old Miami woman had a rude awakening this week when an escaped pet kinkajou snuck into her bed, Local 10 News reported.
According to WISN, a kinkajou named Banana was caressing the woman's face before she screamed, scaring the animal away.
The kinkajou fled to the attic, and the woman contacted her friend Cathy Moghari to help with the unusual situation. Moghari figured the best way to coax the critter out of hiding was to play kinkajou sounds from a speaker and use cherries to lure Banana from her hiding place into a cage.
Banana was taken to the South Dade Avian and Exotic Animal Medical Center, where veterinarian Don Harris tranquilized her and gave the two-foot long mammal a clean bill of health.
The owner of the kinkajou, Raymond Fernandez, said he left Banana with his brother while his home was being tented, and she escaped from her cage. Banana was reunited with Fernandez on Wednesday.
Fernandez has plans to visit the elderly woman with Banana in tow, but they'll probably wait until she's awake this time, so she can spend some quality time with Banana.
According to National Geographic, kinkajous, also known as honey bears, can live up to 23 years in captivity. They can turn their feet around to climb up and down trees, where they spend most of their time.
Homeless Dog Who Lost His Fur to a Skin Infection Learns the Meaning of TLC. There are millions of homeless dogs in the United States. Many of these dogs ended up on the street due to neglect, abuse, or irresponsible guardians. Instead of a loving home, these pups are forced to fend for themselves day in and day out. They get by on what little they can, suffering in the outdoor conditions, just hoping someone will take notice of them. Blu was one of these dogs.
There was no way to know how long Blu had been on his own, but it was clear he was in need of a lot of TLC. When he was first picked up by a local humane society, he was suffering from a bad skin infection, an ear infection, and corneal scars from his severely matted fur. But for Blu, there was hope when a kind family took him in to be a part of their family.
Blu’s first day at his new home was a difficult one. He was skittish around people and wasn’t sure of his new surroundings.
But, he warmed up soon enough thanks to a lot of love and care.
He enjoyed the coziness of his new home, and especially his new, soft bed.
Yea, beds are the best.
He was missing patches of fur, so he was given sweaters to help keep him warm.
Soon, he transformed into a very handsome pup!
Just look at this fluffy cuddle monster!
Looking good, Blu!
Blu has really come a long way thanks to his family. It’s amazing what a little love and care can do! If you’re thinking of bring a new four-legged friend into your life, remember dogs like Blu and always adopt, not shop. All image source: Imgur
Rescued Sheep and Her New Baby Might be the Sweetest Thing You See All Day. An experienced coalition of animal rescue groups, including the Hudson Valley SPCA, Farm Sanctuary, Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, Skylands Animal Sanctuary & Rescue, and Catskill Animal Sanctuary worked together to shut down the cruel operation and provide new homes for over two hundred animals. Isabelle was among the group of animals who were transported to Skylands … and recently, she surprised her new carers by giving birth to a beautiful baby lamb named Samuel. Skylands said, “Samuel is the first baby born at our sanctuary, ever. Welcome little man, we love you already!”
Doesn’t this display of tenderness make your heart melt?
Isabelle is not the only survivor of the Hamptonburg backyard butcher to give birth after being transported to her new home. Two baby goats called Hallie and Raymond were born to their mother Tova in Woodstock Farm Sanctuary earlier this month. At the end of December, another goat named Olive gave birth to Maggie in Farm Sanctuary’s Watkins Glen shelter. A beautiful mama pig and her babies were also given the chance to spend the rest of their lives in peace and comfort after being sent to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. All of the animals who were rescued from that deplorable place are now recovering from their trauma and learning how to trust humans again.
It just goes to show that farm animals are a lot stronger, more self-aware, and more resilient than we give them credit for. In fact, most animals that humans regard as nothing more than a food source – such as pigs, goats, cows, and chickens – are just as loving, playful, caring and intelligent as our household cats and dogs. The picture of Isabelle and Samuel demonstrates that they want nothing more than to love and be loved. Image source: Skylands Animal Sanctuary & Rescue/Facebook
Sweet Rescued Puppy Born Without Eyes is the Ultimate Snuggle Bug. Harley, the puppy in the photos below, was born without eyes. However, his lack of eyesight doesn’t keep him from using his sniffer to navigate his way around the shelter, nor does it stop him from being the biggest sweetheart ever. This puppy’s mother was brought to the ASPCA after she was rescued from an abusive caretaker. Given Harley’s special needs, the ASPCA was concerned about the blind pup’s chances of finding a forever home, so they reached out to S.N.A.R.R. Animal Rescue Northeast for help.
Meet Harley.
He’s quickly earning the title of world’s biggest snuggle bug!
He now has a temporary home at the rescue center. They report that he’s incredibly sweet and great with children! Just look at him and his new hooman BFF!
Harley is always able to sniff out his little human friend. He’s having a great time exploring his surroundings.
This sweet pup will soon be available for adoption. Who could say no to that face?
Harley’s current caretakers are making sure he’s getting the specialized care he needs, they explain on Facebook, “Harley will be seeing the eye specialist to make sure that we don’t need to do anything regarding his empty sockets. We want to make sure he is as comfortable as possible.”
Once that’s all clear, he’ll be up for adoption. If you’re interested in adopting Harley, then you can stay in the loop by visiting S.N.A.R.R. Animal Rescue Northeast’s adoption page or by visiting their Facebook page. All image source: S.N.A.R.R. Animal Rescue Northeast/Facebook
This Family Found a Pig Freezing on the Side of a Road and Did Something Awesome. Farm animals – such as goats, chickens, pigs, cows and turkeys – are often regarded with contempt by humans who see them as having no worth beyond their status as a commodity. What many people don’t realize is that these animals are, in many cases, just as intelligent and self-aware as our beloved cats and dogs. They, too, are capable of expressing deep affection and kindness toward one another and toward humans … and at the end of the day, all they really want is to love and be loved.
Sadly, pigs are often derided as “dirty” or “stupid” animals in order to justify humans’ abuse of them … but this stereotype could not be further from the truth. Pigs have proven themselves capable of playing joystick-controlled computer games, using tools, recognizing their own names, dreaming, and comprehending abstract concepts. The reason they love to roll around in mud is because this cools them down and acts as a sunscreen – they cannot sweat and their skin contains no natural protection against the sun’s rays.
Last Friday, the Smith family, in Maryland, discovered a dying piglet on the side of the road … and they were able to look beyond the stereotypes and see that this tiny living being was in desperate need of their help. Thirteen-year-old Perry spotted the piglet, later describing him to The Washington Post as, “just a little lump in the snow, a pink lump in the snow.”
His father, also named Perry, knew that the baby animal would not survive without their help. It was around 10 p.m. at night and the temperature was freezing. So he and his children leaped into action at once, wrapping the piglet – whom they later named Wee Wee – in a sweatshirt and pulling him out of the snow. Over the following few days, the family worked hard to nurse him back to health: swaddling him in towels to ease his chills; hand-feeding him bananas and water; cuddling him as he slept; and soothing his cuts and bruises with ointment.
The piglet had nearly frozen to death by the time the Smiths found him. The elder Perry said, “He would have lasted maybe another 30 minutes to an hour.”
Although things looked bleak for him, the family was determined to do whatever they could.
Wee Wee soon became a cherished member of the household, although his new family realized that they would eventually have to move him to a place where he could receive the kind of specialized care he needed.
They soon found out that bananas are Wee Wee’s favorite snack of all time!
Everyone in the family fell head over heels in love with this sweet boy.
Doesn’t this just make you sigh with happiness? All pigs – as well as other farm animals – deserve this kind of love.
Luckily, Wee Wee appears to have fully recovered from his ordeal, and is now healthy and strong! The circumstances surrounding how he ended up on the side of the road may never be known, but it is so wonderful that this kind family stepped in to save him. They decided to do whatever they could to keep him safe into the future, too, with the elder Perry determined not to “turn (him) over to someone with plans to put him on the dinner menu.” Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary in Poolesville, Md., has agreed to take in Wee Wee as soon as the weather is mild enough to allow him to be transported.
Let’s hope that sweet Wee Wee has many years of peace and security ahead of him in his new sanctuary home. Shiba Inu Pup Rescued From Dog Meat Market Gets a Bath And a Home.
Mary a Shiba Inu pup was rescued from the dog meat market in Korea and was brought to America where she had her first steps of freedom, her first bath in America and her first and final home.

You can watch the original rescue of all 7 dogs rescued from South Korea here:
https://youtu.be/N16fjiu_MJ0
Seven incredibly fortunate dogs were destined for the dog meat market in Korea when Aniband, an animal rescue based in Korea, saved their lives by sending them to America, where all seven found loving homes.
PAWsitive Channel, Aniband and Doggie Protective Services team up to bring an emotional story of seven dogs -- each one of them was slated for death in the legal, dog meat market of South Korea.
Some of the dogs were owner surrendered, abandoned, found as strays or were bred as meat. Aniband wants to bring to light this serious subject that not all Koreans agree with in hopes of putting an end to this trade.
Aniband paid for the freedom of almost all of the dogs featured in this video -- some straight from the trucks headed to market. The dogs are then put into foster homes where they are provided a warm home and medical care. Once fit for travel, they are sent to America, where Doggie Protective Services finds them a home. Each rescue from beginning to end costs time and hundreds upon thousands of dollars.
Today, Aniband and Doggie Protect Services (DPS) continue their mission, even with limited resources. A freedom flight lands every month with dogs that would have otherwise died. To date, their efforts have saved a hundred dogs with hundreds more awaiting their first steps of freedom.
Aniband means - animals and humans are bonded together in one band.

Brave Dog’s Skin Was Hanging by a Thread When Rescuers Found Him. Now He Needs Your Help. Volunteers from Animal Friends Foundation Burgas, who rescue severely injured animals, can never be fully prepared for what they are going to see next. Many cats and dogs that come through their doors have been subject to neglect and abuse or have been roughed up from life on the streets. Luckily, once inside the facility, there is a glimmer of hope for them all. And this was the case for a young dog that sustained a wound unlike any the rescue team had never experienced before.
When volunteers got the call that a young pup had been found in desolate fields, with severe injuries, all they could do was hope that it wasn’t as bad as it sounded.
Unfortunately, it was worse. A huge open wound stretched from his neck to his shoulder. Jamie, as he was later named, needed medical attention – urgently.
The Fight to Save Jamie
According to the Animal Friends Foundation Burgas, Jamie’s skin was “hanging like a thread.” The vets couldn’t be sure whether the injury was caused by another dog or by humans, but by the looks of it, they were convinced it was a human’s doing. Could someone have cut him open or mutilated him just for fun? Just to feel a little power? That, we can never know. What we do know is that for Jamie, a dog no older than eight months, it must have been the most excruciating experience.
Because there was not enough skin from another part of Jamie’s body to use for a skin graft, the vets had to stitch up the massive injury. He was also given painkillers, antibiotics, and plenty of food to give him the energy he so clearly needed.
The Bravest Pup in the World
Though he must have been scared and in severe pain, volunteers said that Jaime was incredibly brave and sweet throughout the entire ordeal.
“He let everyone manage him without snapping or lashing out in any way,” said Animal Friends Foundation Burgas. ”Slowly, in the recovery, he turned into one of the most positive dogs I have seen. And he has this special trait some dogs have – when happy or excited he lifts his lips, and it seems like he is showing his teeth and snapping, it is so funny!”
Jamie’s scars haven’t healed completely, but the good news is, he’s starting to look and feel like a new dog. In spite of everything he’s gone through, he has been incredibly positive and cheerful. The organization says he isn’t a fearful dog and hasn’t lost his puppy playfulness, either. All in all, he behaves like “he’s the happiest and luckiest dog in the world.”
At the moment, he’s living with the founder of the Animal Friends Foundation Burgas and being spoiled rotten!
His Life Still Hangs in the Balance … Will You Help Him?
Jaime is still recovering, and it will be a long road before he is fully healed. His caretakers say that he’s improving by the day. Sometimes, however, out of the blue, things can take a turn for the worse. You can help Jaime by supporting this amazing organization. To learn more or make a donation, click here. Puppy with canine megaesophagus gets help.
Duncan has a condition called canine megaesophagus. The muscles in his throat aren't strong enough to push food down when he eats so the caregivers at Best Friends help him out with a special chair during feeding time. But this doesn't slow down this other wise normal puppy.
Best Friends Animal Society is the only national animal welfare organization focused exclusively on ending the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters. A leader in the no-kill movement, Best Friends runs the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals, as well as lifesaving programs in partnership with rescue groups and shelters across the country. Since its founding in 1984, Best Friends has helped reduce the number of animals killed in American shelters from 17 million per year to about 4 million. By continuing to build effective initiatives that reduce the number of animals entering shelters and increase the number who find homes, Best Friends and its nationwide network of members and partners are working to Save Them All®
This Senior Dog Was Dumped in a Shelter For Being ‘Too Yucky’ – Then Something Amazing Happened.
Nik-Nak the dog was scheduled to be euthanized in a shelter, but his whole world changed when a kind woman decided to foster him. His previous caretakers dumped him because he was “too yucky,” but this woman saw him for what he really was, a beautiful soul in need of help.
After a manicure, bath, and vet visit, Nik-Nak was a brand new dog. The pair went on awesome adventures together to the beach, park, and car rides to feel the wind through his fur. Of course, they spent lots of cuddle time at home, too. All it took was a little TLC and time to heal the wounds that came from years of neglect. We have to say, this is one spectacular transformation!
It wasn’t long until this sweetie became a “foster failure” and officially joined this woman’s family. Want to help dogs like Nik-Nak? Consider fostering a furry friend!
What became of the dog Grivita?
Do you remember the dramatic story of the Romanian stray dog Grivita? Someone had brutally attacked the animal with a heavy object. Grivita’s entire jaw was so badly injured that she had to go through several operations and could hardly eat or breathe. But our veterinarian team in Romania took care of her and, as you can see in the video below, she plays in the snow just like any other dog and is full of vitality. This story is the perfect example of how incredible an animal’s soul is.

Hilarious Pig and Cow Play Tag in Their Sanctuary Home.
In this video, Harriet the pig and Valentine the calf, both residents of Where Pigs Fly Sanctuary, are in the midst of some quality playtime. Harriet, described as a “barrel on legs,” by the sanctuary, just cannot catch up to Valentine the calf, who outpaces her even as she runs at top speed. No wonder she approaches him so casually with her two friends — this tricky pig must have been trying to get the jump on him!
Many people don’t realize it, but even farm animals each have their own individual personalities. Watching these two, the distinct wit and playfulness in both Harriet and Valentine is readily evident.
You can get to know the unique personalities of farm animals for yourself by volunteering at your local farm sanctuary! If you’re unable to volunteer, you can get to know the residents of Where Pigs Fly by watching the videos here or check out this other sweet video.
Severely Neglected Horses Too Weak to Stand Get Rescued in Amazing Team Effort. Keep your hankies at the ready, Green Monsters, because once you hear this story, you may need ‘em. The rescue team from Last Chance Ranch (LCR) Animal Rescue in Pennsylvania was alerted to sixteen horses in need of help. They described the scene as “by far the worst case of neglect (we have) seen.” Pennsylvania State Police are currently investigating the situation, which occurred on a farm in Bucks County. LCR said, “The volume of animals and the number of dead horses on the property was astounding.”
When LCR rescuers arrived on the scene, it quickly became apparent that five of the most critically ill horses had to be moved to the nearby Quakertown Vet Clinic immediately. A few days later, an additional seven horses, twenty sheep, and one dog were transported to their shelter. Three of the horses were found to have a Henneke Body Condition score of zero, which indicated that they were extremely emaciated. They will need round-the-clock care until their weight goes up. Two horses have a score between one and two, while two others are pregnant. Sadly, the three most emaciated horses who arrived at the shelter were unable to even stand up during the trailer ride and had to be carried into their new barn. LCR praised everyone who assisted in the rescue, saying, “The efforts of the team of staff, volunteers and newly made friends for these horses were amazing. Everyone pulled together to literally carry these stoic horses not giving up their will to live.”
Currently, four horses with a Henneke score between two and three remain at the farm, as they cannot be moved until a snowstorm in the area subsides. However, LCR reassured followers that they “are being fed by those who assisted with the rescue efforts until it is safe enough to transport them.”
Photographs shared by the rescue group reveal just how desperately the horses needed their help.
LCR expressed their gratitude toward Richland Fire Co. for helping to lift one horse named Clarissa. “She is a fighter, with a great will to live,” they said.
The fact that these horses could have ended up in such a dire state is heartbreaking.
Had LCR and other rescue groups not intervened, their hope of survival would have been bleak.
Thankfully, the horses are now safe and warm … but their fight to survive is, by no means, over. LCR said, “(We are) doing everything we can to ensure the animals in our care are receiving the veterinary and nutritional care they need to get them back up to speed. We need everyone’s support, prayers and donations if you can to help these animals pull through.”
The group has set up a fund-raising page called Help Emaciated Horses through the website LoveAnimals. At the time of writing, the appeal has surpassed its goal, with $16,830 pledged! However, additional funds to help provide for the horses’ long-term care are always welcome, so if you’re in a position to help, why not donate today? Let’s hope that Clarissa and the other horses manage to recover from their ordeal … and that they will never have to endure neglect or cruelty at human hands again. Cop Rescues Abandoned Shelter Puppy – and We Can’t Tell Who’s Happier! According to a post on Imgur, a police officer was responding to a call at a local animal shelter when his supervisor pointed out a box of puppies someone had left at the shelter’s door the night before. ”You know Vader needs a baby brother,” the supervisor said, referring to the officer’s four-year-old Pit Bull terrier. The little pup was left with nine other puppies on the shelter’s back stoop in the freezing weather.
Those puppies were just a few of the 7.6 million animals who enter shelters each year in the U.S. When the officer saw the little fur babies, he just couldn’t resist their sweet faces and picked one up for a cuddle.
“So I get to hold him and he immediately curls up in my arms,” he wrote. Judging by this adorable photo of the moment caught on film, we have to say, we’re not quite sure who’s happier … the dog or the officer! It’s clear this pair is in complete bliss.
Can’t contain the happiness!
Naturally, the officer couldn’t let this little one stay in the shelter. Now named Kylo, this adorable pup leads a happy life with the cop and his girlfriend.

FOUR PAWS' heroes: Vet Ovidiu vs. Blizzard.
May we present our vet Ovidiu Rosu, who faced a blizzard and freezing temperatures to help wild horses in Letea. 40 bales of hay were spread over 10 feeding locations around the Letea forest. Especially during these extreme weather conditions it’s important for the animals to have enough food. We are proud that our team could help the animals in those difficult times. #FOURPAWSheroes
